That they set up right next to the lighting rig or something! Good lesson though. John is an excellent teacher. You can see his ability to speak publicly improve in these old videos. Correlates with his hair thinning and arms growing!

one of a million sequences that he makes look easy but takes a bit of time to master! and how much other things and many years of practice! inspired me for 25 plus years and makes me wanna put it down for how much practice and effort it takes with life! seems impossible! but yet i keep going for those years. guitar god and down to earth without an ego! met him at the keswick theater in philly got ticket signed and talked for a while with him portnoy and larue !

Had the AVT 50 watt head , regret ever getting rid of it. Although I traded it for a create power block that has been a great work horse for 20 years now.

For the record some of the playing in these lessons may sound a bit clunky because the mic cuts off at a certain noise level to reduce excess noise. Which also cuts off some of his notes while playing. It’s a little strange.

But my question is... Does he only NEED the OD pedal because the JCM800 can't push the Gain needed for those Harmonics and Squeals? Can you get the Zakk tone using a High Gain head like a 5150, Masa Dual Rec, Diezel etc... without the OverDrive Pedal?

I don't listen to a ton of RHCP but John is truly the real deal. One of the best rock guitarists around without a doubt.

I’ve never been impressed with his playing… he basically plays the same thing on any song he plays.. it’s great if you like it, but he’s a rhythm player, not a lead player.. I’ve never heard a great Gibbons solo.. just home doing this kinda noodling around stuff…

'its all about music and not just showing people what you can do with a piece of wood in your hand with strings on it'. What a wonderful insight into his mentality and the absence of monstrous ego. This is what being in a band and playing music is about; collaboration, the result being more than the sum of the parts. The many arrogant, 'if I was chocolate I'd eat myself' guitarists such as Mayer could learn something from the spirit Frusciante espouses here.

Well... as an average fan of guitar who loves to mess with guitar strings I understand what hes talking about... but that level of technique "habits" is soooooooooooo unreachable to me. Long live Joe Satriani. Eternal honor & respect.

I love this breed of "blues shredder". There are plenty of them, from 70's, 80's, 90's... Slash, Richie Sambora, CC.Deville,...pretty much everyone who WASN'T Yngwie (🙄) ! 😅 It's the main difference between JObi Satchi-Ani...and SteVe Vai-walker, JObi is bluesy.. Vai-walker is all Lydian and alien modal. Both are great - U live them.both, in their own ways. But personally, I model my playing after the bluesy shred rock. Not exactly discovering fire, I know, but it's what I like.

That 7 minutes went by sooo fast! I just clicked on, thinking...7 minutes hey? This will probably feel a bit long in the tooth. But I was mesmerised the whole time...and bang..it was over, and I literally had to come back to s.double check - "Was that really 7 minutes..??! It felt like 2 and a half...🤷‍♂️). Joe would be the BEST guitar teacher - THE BEST!! 😚👌 ... Imagine in a parallel universe, the one where you somehow acquired Joe-Sat as your guitar teacher from the age of 12... and he Miagi'ed you, by making you paint his house, and re-build the engine in his Camero Coupe... imagine how good you'd be now.. And then play something - now, in this universe - to show how mediocre you really are!!😂👍
